RAM Panel: The Antiquities Trade

On 8 March 2024, RAM will organise a panel on the antiquities trade as part of the Art Business Conference taking place during TEFAF in Maastricht.

The trade in antiquities is confronted with unique challenges.  These include challenges with establishing the age, origin and a complete provenance for ancient objects and with examining the legality of their export from source countries. Vigilance and responsible due diligence are pre-requisites for market participants, who can play an important role in combatting illicit transactions in cultural goods.

The Responsible Art Market is a non-profit initiative which brings together actors from across the art market.  It provides a forum for sharing practical guidance and responsible practices to address risks faced by the art industry.   In 2023, RAM set up a working group focused on providing dedicated tools to assist the antiquities trade in navigating these challenges.
