Freezing and Seizure of Cultural Property

For centuries, works of art and cultural property have been subject to measures capable of restricting their circulation.

Seizures, freezes, and other protective measures serve a variety of purposes and reflect the evolving relationship between heritage, property, and public action.

The annual conference of the Art Law Foundation (FDA) proposes to explore the foundations, procedures, and consequences of these measures. The presentations will provide historical, legal, and practical insights into the various actions that may affect cultural property in the context of civil, criminal, or administrative proceedings, as well as international sanctions.

This event is intended as an opportunity for exchange and reflection, open to a broad audience. While the issues addressed are based on sometimes complex legal mechanisms, they will be presented through concrete examples and real-life situations drawn from practice, enabling everyone to understand their stakes and implications.
